Especialista en Cirugía General (Panamá) — idoneidad del Consejo Técnico de Salud

Latin America · PA · $99, the same everywhere

How you become a specialist here

No national exit examination

In Panama no one practises without the certificate of fitness issued by the Ministry of Health’s Technical Health Council, and there is a specific specialist certificate. It follows from a postgraduate qualification awarded by a recognised higher education body or by a teaching hospital authorised by the University of Panama and the Council itself. The certificate is an accreditation procedure, not a specialty examination.

So what is a question bank for, here? For the years before the title, and for the evaluations inside them. Where there is no exit examination the pressure moves into residency — the ward round, the rotation assessment, the case you are asked to defend — and it is the same general surgery either way. The bank is also what you sit down with before a certification examination abroad, and before recertifying.

Checked against the body itself on 1 September 2026. Procedures change; if this no longer matches what you were asked for, write and tell us.

No weighted breakdown for this examination, and why

Ministerio de Salud — Consejo Técnico de Salud does not publish a general surgery syllabus we have been able to obtain, so this page shows no domains and no percentages. Common questions about this examination

Is there a national general surgery examination in Panamá?

In Panama no one practises without the certificate of fitness issued by the Ministry of Health’s Technical Health Council, and there is a specific specialist certificate. It follows from a postgraduate qualification awarded by a recognised higher education body or by a teaching hospital authorised by the University of Panama and the Council itself. The certificate is an accreditation procedure, not a specialty examination.

How is a general surgeon certified in Panamá?

Through the Ministry of Health’s Technical Health Council. It is a registration procedure over a title already awarded, not a specialty examination. We checked this with the body itself on 1 September 2026, and we publish the date so that it is obvious when it ages.

Is a question bank useful if Panamá has no exit examination?

It is useful for residency, which is where it is actually decided: rotation assessments, the ward round and the case you are asked to defend. And for anyone sitting a certification abroad or recertifying. 5,000 single-best-answer questions across the whole of general surgery, each with the reasoning for every option rather than only the correct one — 2,051 of them, 41%, at the hardest of three levels.

What does it cost from Panamá?

One payment of $99 for 180 days, the same from wherever you pay — there is no country pricing. It covers the whole bank, the oral simulator and the timed mock papers. Nothing renews and no card is kept on file afterwards. Fifty questions are free with an account, so you can judge the level before paying.

Every answer above is taken from the examining body’s own published document, not from our reading of it.
